The Saskatoon Health Region’s welcome guide for residents
entering, or individuals considering, long term care emphasizes its dedication
to resident-directed care and outlines how in each of its service areas it
adheres to that standard of care.
The guide covers all aspects of long term care, from initial
transition to information on care planning for falls prevention, hand hygiene
and oral care. It explains that long term care environments are community
spaces with recreation, resident/family councils and spiritual services. At the
end of this guide there is also a checklist of things to look for in long term
care facilities and questions to ask staff before moving in.
For health care providers who are new to long term care,
this is a comprehensive overview of long term care environments with a
resident-focused lens.
