The Centre for Hip Health
and Mobility (CHHM) has recently launched a YouTube channel featuring three
videos on preventing falls in long-term care. CHHM, part of UBC and
affiliated with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, aims to improve hip
health and mobility through research and translating research into practice.
Over a five year period, CHHM placed video cameras in two long-term care
facilities to capture the falls of residents. By doing so, researchers
were better able to understand how falls occur and designed strategies on how
to prevent falls or reduce the risk of falls.
These videos showcase the results of this study and how the
evidence can be translated into practical application within long-term care
facilities.
