The Dementia Collaborative Research Centres, an Australian
Government Initiative, developed a description of respite care and its intended
functions and uses for the purposes of caring for older adults with dementia.
The vision of this collaborative research group is “translating dementia
research into practice.”
Some of the topics covered in this guide include what is
respite care, when should it be considered (as opposed to long term care or
other care models), and suggestions for improvements to respite care programs.
A feature of this guide is that it tells stories and experiences from a
caregivers’ perspective about navigating decisions and coordinating services
with respite care programs.
