Trauma Informed: The Trauma Toolkit

Klinic Community Health Centre in Winnipeg developed the Trauma-informed: Trauma Toolkit in 2013 to describe trauma and its effects as well as guidelines for working with people affected by trauma.

Trauma and traumatic events, whether physical or psychological, can occur to people in any or all stages of a person’s life. By the time elderly residents are entering long-term care facilities they will have a wealth of memories and experiences that they are carrying with them on top of the effects of transitioning into a long-term care facility, or just the physical experience of aging.

For health care providers, understanding trauma and its acute and long-term effects on an individual enables one to provide care which could foster healing and growth in residents and patients.
