Just Clean Your Hands (JCYH) Training and Tools for Long-Term Care Homes

Developed by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care of Ontario in 2008 the Just Clean Your Hands (JCYH) program is a multi-faceted evidence-based education and awareness effort whose aim is to reduce infections and the spread of infection in health care settings resulting from lack of proper hand hygiene.

According to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, at any time there are over 1.4 million people worldwide suffering from health care associated infections. In North American hospitals, 5-10 per cent of all patients will acquire health care associated infections. However, proper hand hygiene have been proven to reduce health care associated infection by 20-40 per cent.

There are two sections of JCYH: hospitals and long-term care settings.  Included in the toolkit are resources for promotion, education, evaluation and auditing for health care providers. There are videos associated with each section to accompany and supplement written materials.
