Oral Health Promotion for Long Term Care

In addition to providing much-needed clinical services for under-served populations, in 2000 the University of Manitoba's Centre for CommunityOral Health (CCOH) made a commitment to health promotion.

This new commitment included the long-term care (LTC) facilities of Deer LodgeCentre and Manitoba Developmental Centre, as well as the Home Dental Care (mobile van) program, which visits over 40 LTC facilities in the Winnipeg area.

A primary focus of the Health Promotion Unit's activities has beenproviding in-services, workshops, and presentations focused on improving oral health in long-term care. These programs have been delivered to numerous health care aides, nurses, speech language pathologists, dietitians, physicians, administrators, and others.

This site contains a collection of LTC fact sheets developed as a component to mouthcare training for caregivers. Permission is granted to print and use them in their original form. Fact sheets are updated and revised on a regular basis, to keep them current and based on the latest evidence available.
