Recommendations for Preventing Fracture in Long-term Care

Just this week, a research group supported by the Ontario Osteoporosis Strategy for Long-Term Care published in CMAJ new recommendations for the prevention of fractures in older adults living in long-term care facilities.

These recommendations are intended as a guideline for interdisciplinary teams working in long-term care to develop strategies for the prevention of fractures with their residents. Included in the recommendations is an easy to follow decision tree for initial and ongoing assessment as well as intervention recommendations depending on assessment outcomes.
