In recognition of Alzheimer Awareness Month, we are
highlighting two different tools available through the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
Meal
Times, from the Alzheimer’s Society Day-to-day series, provides information
and tips to caregivers, volunteers and healthcare staff when assisting
individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia.
The pamphlet describes strategies for a person-centered approach to mealtime,
and encourages an interactive mealtime. The pamphlet also goes through
the struggles, or issues that will arise as dementia progresses and provides
strategies for coping.
All
about Me is an autobiographical booklet inviting individuals with dementia
to share their stories. The booklet asks individuals to include information
that is important to their day-to-day care, such as medical information,
contact information, likes and dislikes, daily routines, mealtime routines,
hobbies and grooming preferences.
