Flu vaccinations have been under way for a few weeks now, but the flu awareness campaigns are just beginning. Many of which are directed at seniors and long-term care residents.
Annals of Long-Term Care spoke with Dr. Alicia Fry, a CDC medical officer about the flu vaccines available this fall, the CDC's recommendation on flu vaccination in long-term care facilities and prevention/management of influenza in long-term care facilities. The National Council on Aging have launched their Flu + You campaign aimed at adults over 65 years of age. On their website, they've included a toolkit for healthcare professionals with a presentation on promotion/prevention of the flu to community-dwelling seniors, as well as a how-to present the presentation. They've also added brochures with helpful information on the flu, frequently asked questions and facts on the flu vaccine.
