Over the next three decades, the proportion of older adults age 65+ in Canada is projected to nearly double. Given the key role of physical activity in the health of older adults, it’s important that long-term care and other older adult housing facilities offer adequate physical activity opportunities to their residents. This issue of Wellspring, from the Alberta Centre for Active Living, covers:
· The aging population’s need for physical activity
· Previous research on physical activity programs at long-term care facilities in Canada
· Authors’ study on older adult housing facilities in Atlantic Canada
· Findings from the study
· Discussion and suggestions for facilities
