Integrating older people: a training of trainers manual for successful mainstreaming of age-friendliness in the Canadian Red Cross' programme in Aceh, Indonesia

Published by HelpAge International Asia, Pacific Regional Development Centre, 2009 for for use by the Canadian Red Cross, this manual is suitable for other organisations to adapt for their own purposes.

The manual consist of six units that can be treated as sessions which can make up a three day intense workshop, or can be individually selected to provide topic specific training.


The manual gives an overview of ageing globally and nationally, and the need for mainstreaming age-friendliness. It also looks at
  • community mobilisation, ensuring representation of the elderly in committees, etc.
  • understanding needs and capacities of older people, including post disaster needs
  • working with the elderly in disaster response and rehabilitation
  • working with older women
  • working with those with physical and mental disabilities
  • monitoring and evaluation to assess age-friendliness
