Home From Home

This report aims to provide an understanding of carers’ perceptions of the quality of dementia care provided in residential and nursing home facilities. Published by the Alzheimer’s Society (UK) in 2007 as part of the ‘Putting care right’ campaign which aimed to raise the quality of care provided to people with dementia.

The report is based on three questionnaires distributed to carers, care home managers and care home staff and focus groups held for carers.

Highlighted are key challenges faced by care home managers and staff presented under four main headings: dementia in care homes; activities, engagement and occupation; involvement of friends and families in care; challenges in providing good dementia care.
