This toolkit has been developed for use by care managers, caterers and others involved in the delivery of care to older people in care homes. It consists of a series of factsheets, checklists and advice notes on the importance of adequate and appropriate water consumption by the elderly. The general health and disease resistance benefits of adequate water intake are outlined, and the evidence presented in the form of references to the medical literature. There is a series of FAQs for care managers on water consumption by residents, a sample menu for providing adequate fluids in care homes, a review of existing national standards on care guidance, a water audit, checklists of facilities, and quizzes for staff. The toolkit has been developed by Water UK, the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health, The Royal Institute of Public Health and The National Association of Care Catering.
