Statistics Canada released a Health Report in May 2016 about
Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias in the Canadian population according to
the 2010/2011 Canadian Community Health Survey, the 2011/2012 Survey of
Neurological Conditions in Institutions in Canada, and the 2011 Survey on
Living with Neurological Conditions in Canada.
According to the report, dementia is the most common type of
neurodegenerative disorder. Among Canadians aged 45 or older, 45% of those
living in long-term residential care settings have a diagnosis of dementia.
